Kassie, Andy and I spent New Year's Eve 2010 at a place called Vernon Lanes in Louisville. They are the oldest operating lanes in town and used to be owned by the Catholic church (which conjures images of priests in robes and bowling shoes fist pumping after a getting a solid spare). The lanes sit atop a club (also named Vernon) that was hosting a big bash, made complete with appropriately kitchily named bands (e.g. The Crispin Glover Cover Band) and hundreds of sweaty hipsters clutching their MGDs. As appealing as the scene was, we decided to spend the bulk of our time upstairs at the 124 year-old bowling alley, knocking down pins in our NYE finest and sipping Sophia Coppola juice-box champagne through straws....
